I was referred to Respiratory under the 2 week rule about the 2nd week of January expecting to be seen within 2 weeks. Previously my Rheumatologist had referred me for chest CT this was arranged for February 6th. I called the Respiratory department after waiting more than 3 weeks and they told me they had not arranged anything urgent and I would be seen for CT as arranged by the Rheumatologist. This came back showing a nodule on my lung. They told me they did not think this was cancer but wanted to perform another scan in 2 months to see if there were any changes. This second scan was cancelled due to Covid. I spoke to a lovely nurse who managed to get the scan reinstated. Following the 2nd scan I was referred for a PET scan and I have now been diagnosed with small cell cancer of the right lung. I am at a loss to understand why I was referred under the 2 week rule for suspected lung cancer but had to wait 4 months for a diagnosis. Thank fully there is a good possibility that this is operable and curable.
