I attended the Urology Diagnostic Treatment Centre at Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline in April 2020 to have a catheter removed after prostate surgery. This was the second time as I had to go back to hospital to have it refitted due to suffering great pain and being unable to pass urine after 48 hours.
The nurses at Queen Margaret were extremely good and patient with me, answering all my questions and concerns - I was obviously concerned that I might have to go through the same ordeal again. I found the whole process as unstressful as it could have possibly have been and have subsequently had no further problems with pain or urine retention.
The way I was treated was in marked contrast to the hospital where I originally had the catheter removed which was like being processed as quickly as possible with no attempt made to discuss the process I was undergoing or prepare me for any problems I might experience.
