"Minor Injuries was closed"

About: Kincardine Community Hospital / Minor Injuries

(as the patient),

I went to the Minor Injuries unit at Stonehaven on Friday after slicing through my finger with a Stanley knife only to be told it was shut and shouldn't have went there, so landed up having to drive to Aberdeen and get a lift to a+e there, I was absolutely stunned at the way I was treated, or should I say, not treated at Stonehaven, still find it hard to get my head around.

Please see below the response from Kincardine Community Hospital:

Dear Abuhamsa,

Thank you for sharing your story on Care Opinion.

I’m sorry to hear you were sent away from Stonehaven Minor Injuries Unit after slicing your finger. I appreciate it can’t have been easy to find a lift into Aberdeen while in pain and at short notice.

Unfortunately we have had to make the decision to close many of our minor injuries units due to the Covid-19 outbreak. This has not been a decision we have taken lightly and has been directed by the Government response to the management of Covid-19. By reducing the number of out-patients coming into the hospital we hope to keep the chance of infection in in-patients areas lower. This should have been explained to you at the time and I apologise if it wasn’t.

I have shared your story with the staff at Kincardine Community Hospital to ensure they communicate this clearly to anyone looking to access the Minor Injuries Unit whilst the Covid Restrictions are still in place.

I hope your finger has healed well.

Take care

Sam May, Area Support Manager, Kincardine Community Hospital
