"Amazing midwives"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Maternity Care (Wards 21-24)

(as the patient),

So yesterday my waters broke and although this was baby 3, I’ve never experienced this before. From the minute I went into triage, until I was taken into the labour ward I was made feel at ease.. now I can’t remember the midwives name who helped in triage but she was fantastic! Aisling was a student midwife who from the moment I got taken into the labour room made me feel at ease... she greeted me with a huge smile (underneath her mask, but I could tell she was smiling) she kept me entertained and relaxed! I know this is the job of all midwives but for a student midwife who was not long out of uni, she was fantastic! She was great with my sarcastic husband and even though I was pretty out of it, there was never any silence. She continued to keep him distracted!

We weren’t fortunate enough for baby to come whilst aisling was on shift, baby came 5 minutes after she finished, however we were out in the amazing hands of Karen another student midwife! Who was amazing she was only in the door 45 mins and had helped deliver our little chubby bundle of joy... the other midwife in the room, julie I think her name was she was amazing and I’m pretty sure she deserves a medal for her hands alone allowing me to squeeze them! Each and every midwife I encountered were amazing! But these 3 I remembered names for were just fantastic and i would love people to be put at ease the same way I was...

With all this covid-19 going on, these midwives have a tough enough job and they never let anything phase them! Such a credit to your team!

Dear KCF87,

Congratulations on the birth of your baby!!

The staff will be chuffed to read your feedback and how well supported you felt. Our University hospitals throughout Lanarkshire provide training for healthcare professionals and Aisling, Karen and Julie are testament to the professionalism and high standards of person-centred care that we strive for as an organisation.

I must confess I've been a "sarcastic" husband at childbirth, but it's nerves on our part I think, but the staff are always ready to support birth partners at what is a happy but possibly anxious time as well.

I'll be sure to share your feedback with the whole team and wish you and your family good health and happiness; I hope you manage to find some time to rest with three!

Kind regards

Rick
