"In limbo for the next two years"

About: Sandyford Clinic

(as a service user),

My story is about the Sandyford Gender Identity Clinic and the fact that the waiting list is 2 years of waiting!

This is absolutely pathetic some of us can’t wait 2 years for a first initial appointment. No other service in the NHS is like this. It’s absolutely insane, the pain and torture trans people have to go through waiting a year is bad enough but being told that you have to wait 2 years is horrific!

Thinking that I am in this limbo for the next 2 whole years of my life with no help during the waiting time, I honestly can’t deal with it anymore.

Hello Scared90,

I’m so sorry to hear that you feel you are stuck in limbo. I can understand this must be a very difficult time for you and I am sorry that the waiting time is making it more difficult.

I have spoken with my colleagues from the Sandyford Clinic and I would like to reassure you that they are doing as much as possible to reduce waiting times, such as expanding their team.

As Sam has suggested above, there are some services you might find helpful to engage with just now such as the Patient Advice and Support Service. The Sandyford Clinic have also shared some services which I have included below:

https://www.scottishtrans.org/

https://www.lgbthealth.org.uk/

They have sent over some leaflets and more specific sources of support, depending on whether you are a young person or an adult. Would you be happy to contact me at Rachel.pyle@ggc.scot.nhs.uk and I can share them with you?

Best Wishes,

Rachel
