"Annoying use of jargon"

About: Addenbrooke's Hospital

I have a great deal of respect for Addenbrookes, it’s where my career in nursing began (now retired). My elderly relative is there with Covid-19. I phoned for an update and the staff nurse, who has no idea I’m a retired nurse, basically gave me a ‘handover’ peppered with jargon e.g. independent with his ADLs and told me how much oxygen he was on with zero context. I had to interrupt her a couple of times to say I just wanted to know if he’s improving. I think this is a great shame in 2020. I can recall being taught 35 years ago NOT to use jargon except with colleagues, and even then to be aware that more junior colleagues may not understand. Staff should not talk to members of the public in this way. It made me anxious about how clearly staff are communicating with my relative, who is vulnerable and easily confused.
