I moved from my home town and now living in Dumfries and Galloway I came down this way in 2006 to stay in a therapeutic community for people with mental health difficulties.
It is called Lothlorien named after Lord of the rings, it is owned by Samye ling Buddhist centre. It is a large log cabin they have clients like myself and co-workers who live along side you, it accommodates about 14 people. The log cabin is a minimum 6 month stay and maximum 2 year stay. Next to the log cabin is a five bedroom wooden house for rehabilitation to move back into society and you can stay there for up to five years. After breakfast we all chip in and do chores cleaning its on a rota then we have a meeting to discuss the day ahead or if there is any issues they get ironed out. There is a full time gardener who will have a list of jobs to be done in the garden and we all pick a job to do. We grow and eat all our own produce all year long I loved doing the grass cutting, there is art classes and relaxation classes. I stayed there for three years it was a very enjoyable and pleasant experience I learned a lot about others and myself living in close quarters with many different characters it benefited me immensely it was my first stepping stone to a hard earned recovery. If you are struggling mentally then I recommend you check it out its in a lovely remote location and beautiful scenery.
