I gave birth on 17th March with the care and support of midwife Hannah. We were in the delivery room with the birthing bath/pool which was just perfect, warm with lovely music, low lighting and comfortable bed. We couldn’t have been more relaxed and happy. Hannah followed our birth plan and provided just the right amount of support and intervention which was assuring and comforting. Our Baby girl needed assistance breathing on delivery and Hannah and the staff assisting (sorry didn’t catch names) were calm, quick and very effective. We had our daughter in our arms within 15 mins with minimal fuss and were then frequently monitored and cared for over the next 12 hours with Hannah ending her shift and midwife Amy taking over.
Amy was equally supportive, open to any questions and took great care of us. We were then moved to the maternity ward to complete observations for a further 12 hrs before the baby check and leaving for home. We were super grateful for the positive experience particularly considering the level of anxiety over covid-19 and wanting to keep baby safe. On the community care front at Aboyne midwifery unit we were under the care of Lydia for the most part and latterly for my first sweep and post-birth care, Moira. Both ladies are fantastic and Moira in particular has been extremely reactive, always available for support, and has a way of explaining things that is super effective and understandable! We can’t thank Aboyne and Aberdeen midwifery care enough.
