"Denied contact with family and carers"

About: Forensic mental health / Low secure services

(as a parent/guardian),

I am concerned and annoyed that Wells Road mental health hospital has stopped patients from having their designated and agreed unescorted leave and more importantly denying them contact with family and carers.

Staff who work at the hospital are allowed to go home after their shift; therefore it makes no sense why patients aren’t allowed to, at the very least have their local leave. Why do patients with mental health illnesses seem to be treated with more restrictions than the rest of the population? This seems not fair!

One of the really sad things is the most vulnerable people in our society who deserve the best care have historically fared worse and now it appears to be happening again. My Son had a tribunal set for next week but with all the uncertainty we have no idea if this will go ahead and it appears he may now spend much much longer as an inpatient than necessary.

Hello, my name is Jane Danforth. My role involves helping our service users, volunteers and staff to understand that Notts Healthcare wants to hear stories about our services. We reply to every story and it really helps us to improve what we do, how we do it and to hear about what works well too.

Dear Duch

Sorry for the delay. I am so very sorry to hear how you are feeling and to read about your concern for your son and his mental health. Restricting movement is something we all have to do so it means our choices about how we move around are limited to protect everyone's health. We are going through unprecedented and difficult times.

As soon as we can we will resume our usual services but when this might be is not clear.

I'm sure that staff will keep you informed but please call them if you are worried about your son. I know this will be hard for you all as a family.

Some staff are not able to their Care Opinion accounts as quickly as usual due to an increased demand on our IT system. This is why I'm replying on their behalf.

Keep safe and keep well.

Kind Regards

Jane
