"Keep up the fantastic work"

About: Highland Community Services / Breastfeeding Support Service

(as the patient),

Lana is amazing! When I had my first baby he had undiagnosed tongue tie, he wouldn’t latch and I couldn’t work out why which took me down a long road of exclusively expressing until he was 1. When I fell pregnant with my second child I wanted to gain more knowledge and found out about Lana from my midwife. She was very welcoming from day one even though I was weeks away from giving birth! We had an in-depth but relaxed chat and she gave me her number saying I could message anytime, I came away with a can do attitude and knew that even if she had tongue tie I could still have the positive breastfeeding experience I was hoping for.

Once my baby was born it soon became clear that she also wouldn’t latch and with the hospital midwives so busy I turned to Lana who answered my text messages promptly. It turned out she also had tongue tie and I was finally referred by the community midwife. Tongue tie was cut at 17 days and I received copious amounts of helpful advice from Lana also meeting up to check latch etc, without a doubt she single handedly turned my breastfeeding journey into a positive one. I’m still breastfeeding at 18 months with no plans to stop and I firmly believe if more women had access to a feeding support worker of Lana’s stature the breastfeeding rates in Scotland would be much higher. Keep up the fantastic work Lana
