"I'm grateful to the consultant and team."

About: Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre

(as the patient),

My story continues from 'Life changing and painful'.

When I left off I had been transferred to the care of the Foot and Ankle team at Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford.

Well it has taken more than 2 years for the hole in my foot to heal and close up. That is 121 weeks or 847 days of dressings, bandages, not being able to wear a pair of shoes, twice weekly visits to the Nurse Practitioner at the GP and fortnightly visits to Oxford, four corrective surgeries and finally plastic surgery!

It was my husband that gave us the turning point 18 months ago when he recalled his gran using salt in a hot basin to soak tired and blistered feet. He started soaking my feet about  3 times a week, changing the dressings more often and this was pleasantly approved by the team at Nuffield because of the improvement in the large open wound.

I'm grateful to the consultants and team at the Foot and Ankle Orthopaedic department at Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre; to my GP Nurse practitioner who was the first to see the botched surgery when I fell ill with infection and pain one week after the botched surgery and has been with me twice a week for the entire time; and lastly I am extremely grateful to my husband for supporting me in the decision to NOT allow the amputation and be at my side through it all. Life has been horrendous these last two years and we almost had to withdraw from society with all the hospital and GP visits. We now look forward to trying to reestablish our life and return to some normality, albeit that I now have a deformed foot and we are in our seventies but hey ho, we have to be positive.
