I attended the Eye Casualty for a minor eye injury.
On booking in the simple but brilliant system of taking a number and then taking a seat away from the booking in desk was in place. This is to help patient confidentiality but also means you can take a seat and are not in the way of the flow through the unit. On arrival, a friendly receptionist was supporting people with appointment letters and asked me to take a number and then a seat.
The receptionist was training a new member of staff and was very patient with her colleague. This was very nice to see.
We were told it may be 2-3 hours so sat in the waiting area prepared to wait.
After 10 minutes I was called through by a friendly nurse who went through why I was there then asked to take a seat. 5 minutes later I was called in to another area for Visual Acuity testing and eye pressures.
5 minutes after that I was seen by a competent Nurse Practitioner who assessed my eye and came to a diagnosis very quickly.
The attitude of all of the staff was great. They all introduced themselves and were very pleasant.
As a senior Health Professional and Registered Nurse, I was highly impressed by the service that was delivered. It was really excellent.
The Department was also clean and free of clutter.
I was also impressed by the Friends Cafe Bar which offered a welcome refreshment after my treatment was finished. What a wonderful, kind and friendly environment within a Hospital. A great asset to the Trust.
All in all I was in the Eye Casualty for 60 minutes. What can I say but the service was first class. A fantastic service by a fantastic team. Well done and Thank you.
