A colonoscopy is not a pleasant procedure but from reception through to the end I was incredibly well looked after. Reception was clean and comfortable. On time I was welcomed by my care nurse who took great lengths to explain the procedure, including the uncomfortable side effects but fully reassured me that pain relief was available at any time. After appropriate checks and preparation I was taken to the examination room where once again I was reassured that my comfort was a priority.
Yes, the procedure is very uncomfortable and I did take advantage of the gas and air on a couple of occasions. The ability to see the examination on the screen for me was a major factor in understanding what was happening and staff were only too happy to answer questions. After the colonoscopy I was thoroughly checked to make sure I was OK and a very welcome cup of tea and biscuit was provided.
In summary, despite the discomfort, I would go through the process again - but not the preparation medication. What a fantastic team!!!
