"Admission - what to expect"

My daughter has been admitted to Hereward Wake and I thought it would be useful to others  to write about the process of admission and the early days so they would know what to expect. The week before the admission we heard nothing from the ward so I contacted them them and was put in touch with the social worker who appears to liaise between ward and family. She emailed  the carers pack which was useful.

On admission phone was confiscated as it had a camera. My daughter was able to phone from a phone in the corridor free of charge for this call otherwise you need to buy a phonecard to use it. TIP... take a basic phone with no camera or internet and load your important contacts onto it before you go

We value your feedback and thank you for taking the time to share your experiences.

Where we have a planned admission to our hospital, we absolutely should be sending the welcome pack to carers prior to their loved one’s admission. I am sorry that you had to request this, but I am pleased to hear you found this useful when it did arrive. Although we strive to send the welcome pack to all carers prior to a planned admission, we take on board that this was not your experience and are reviewing our process to address this.
