We have just had our second child at the Borders General Hospital in Melrose. Our experience, as with our first child, was fantastic so this is a shout out to the fantastic team they have there. Our first child was born after a very long labour with the baby in a “back to back” position which meant a huge amount of pain for my wife. The team dealt with the situation very professionally and an epidural was decided upon once it became clear that the labour was taking too much out of my wife / the pain was getting too severe. This allowed her to get some rest and meant that when the time came, she managed to push our son out quickly. The aftercare my wife received both immediately after giving birth and then the assistance which she received in getting established with breastfeeding and general first time mum stuff was brilliant.
Our second child was slightly more straightforward (no epidural this time but an induction due to early waters breaking but labour not onset) but nevertheless the care we received was just brilliant. One of the things we like about the BGH is that there is a familiarity there that made us feel incredibly at ease (Joan , who looked after my wife before and during labour this time round , looked after her post labour last time, and so on). I think this says great things about the department as they clearly have a great base of loyal , committed staff.
