I was visiting this department, on the back of an urgent referral from my GP. A CT scan is to follow next week. I was particularly nervous and, in fact, quite worried, due to the possible outcome. Even though I arrived in plenty of time for my appointment, my MRI did not, in fact, take place until 20 minutes after my allotted time. Not a good start. My anxiety was through the roof. I don't consider I was physically handled particularly well/sensitively, in view of the discomfort I was and had been experiencing. I was advised by my GP that, due to the urgency of the MRI and CT scans, they might well give me some indication, immediately. When I asked whether this was likely, after the MRI, I was met with some incredulity, and told it would be 4-6 weeks before the report was available! Seriously? When a patient is facing the possibility of being told that the outcome could be life threatening, I felt that they were particularly insensitive. Their reaction was "if your GP has asked for an urgent response, it will take a shorter time". I was shown the door and left feeling empty.
