I went into spontaneous labour at 34+6 weeks with my first baby which came as a massive shock to both myself and my husband as I had a healthy pregnancy. We were both extremely anxious and were unsure whether the baby would need additional support if they were born early.
The care we received from the minute we attended the triage department was phenomenal. We were visited by various nurses and doctors who explained everything to us and made us feel reassured.
My labour progressed and our baby boy was born the next day. I can’t praise our midwife enough, she helped keep us calm and answered all of our questions. After his birth, our baby required support with his breathing in the neonatal unit for a short period of time. Again, the care we received in this unit was amazing and we were particularly impressed with the ‘baby diary’ app, where we were sent pictures of our baby. We felt included in the ward round in the unit and were very involved in our baby’s care.
After 10 nights, we were able to bring our baby home where he has continued to thrive. We can’t thank all staff enough for their support during labour, birth and aftercare.
