Attended MDGH as direct referral from GP. I have cardiomyopathy and presented with increased PVCs. No room in AAU so sat in A&E for 6hrs. ECG and bloods taken in 6hrs, no doctor attended. A&E staff advised I wasn’t under their care due to direct referral so had to wait for medics. No adequate updates. Moved to AAU, waited another 2hrs to be told all investigations were complete. See your GP and wait for cardiology appointment. Not once was my heart monitored other than the 10 second ECG. Having cardiomyopathy, left bundle branch block and paroxysmal atrial tachycardia combined with a large burden of PVCs puts me at risk of fatal arrhythmia and not once did I feel I was taken seriously and not a single doctor felt the need or even took the time to put me on a monitor for longer than an ECG strip to see what was happening. I understand AAU was busy but while I was sat in A&E there were several staff sat around on their mobile phones and talking about their lives and things unrelated to work. Why didn’t A&E staff and doctors use their time to pick up some of the workload rather than discussing what they had for tea or what shift pattern they had been annoyingly rostered on for? Disgusting to have patients sat there waiting if you ask me..if I’d have had a heart attack they wouldn’t have ever known because I was sat in a cubicle with curtains drawn. All because I was not under A&E care and waiting for medics from another department.
I have been severely let down by this service. I arrived at 17:43 and left at around 02:30, the system is flawed and I’ve seen first hand that the nhs MDGH does itself no favours in protecting itself. I am still having an uncountable amount of PVCs with no medical help or intervention. I have advised my next of kin that if anything medical happens to me that is heart related that they should seek legal advice and open a legal case against the nhs for neglect.
"Poor, inadequate"
