My 84 year old mother was admitted to Alverstone Ward in late October 2019 with a broken hip and she spent several weeks there, up until the end of December. I was pleased with the quality of care she received (as were the rest of my family). The ward cares for a lot of elderly patients with similar problems and I appreciate how challenging it must be to deal with their varying and complex care needs. The staff were always friendly and professional and were usually available to update us on my mother's care, even though they were often very busy in other areas of the ward. The ward was kept clean and tidy and my mother seemed to enjoy the food provided! The staff made a big effort on Christmas Day to ensure that patients were able to enjoy something of the festivities! We hear a lot about the shortcomings of the NHS these days and, unfortunately, the Isle of Wight Trust has come in for criticism recently. However, in this case I believe the staff on Alverstone ward deserve the praise. Thank you to them.
