I was advised today that the projected waiting time for surgery to remove a piece of glass from my foot is 39 weeks. This was an urgent referral.
I have been unable to walk properly for 6 weeks since a piece of glass left in my foot in 2013, following an accident, started to move. This has left me in extreme pain and with severe mobility issues. Being unable to weight-bear on my affected foot, or tolerate any contact with the affected area, I cannot wear appropriate footwear, drive, walk properly, exercise or carry out the normal responsibilities of my role (I am a teacher and required to be on my feet all day). This is seriously affecting my quality of life as I am very active, a passionate runner and rely on exercise and activity to support my mental health. The thought of being inactive, immobile, unfit for work and in unbearable pain for a further 9 months, at least, is causing me great distress and anxiety. I fully understand the pressures facing the NHS, and I commend all NHS staff for the work that they do, but feel very, very let down by this.
