"Having a baby"

About: Borders General Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

From around 22 weeks pregnant I've suffered with bad Antenatal Depression!!

Having my consultant come in today with tears in her eyes telling me how proud she is and how Ward 17 staff have all developed a soft spot for me and my story has honestly just made this whole experience mean so much more.

I havent been treated as an inpatient I've been treated like a person who was in desperate need of help, antenatal depression is probably the hardest thing I've ever dealt with, the guilt, the anxiety, the thoughts and the worst part was the comments other people made! Making me feel like it wasnt ok to feel that way!

I have to give special thanks to Ward 17 staff especially :

Inka and Kristina who helped deliver my baby boy and kept me going through the most painful labour I've had!

Sarah, Alexa, Beth, Roma, Dr McKenzie, Dr Sam, Fiona , Claire (senior) the other Krystina (student) ...... too many that I've really built a bond with. (Probably forgot someone sorry lol)

It made it easier being away from my family always knowing there was someone here I could open up to. Always a friendly face....... it's definitely been the hardest and today is bitter sweet because we're going home 😊😊

I love every single one of you guys for helping me the way you have and no amount of thank yous will ever ever repay any of you.

Thank you

Thank you so much EmmaN for such lovely feedback - the team are absolutely humbled!

I’m so glad you have had such a positive experience, we strive to provide person centred care and your feedback reflects just that. Hearing words like ‘there was always someone there’ and ‘always a friendly face’ makes our job all the more worthwhile.

We are pushing Perinatal Mental Health to the forefront and developing the service within NHS Borders and listening to what you have said tells me our service for women is improving and the right people are getting the right help at the right time. We are working closely with our Mental Health colleagues to try and make sure our women have the best care.

I hope you have settled into home life as a growing family and continue to move forward on your journey as a new mum as positively as you are now.

Take care

Kind regards

Claire
