This was everything bad about the NHS.
Patients were packed into a tiny corridor rather than a proper waiting room.
There were hardly any chairs. Most people were standing up along the walls or sitting on the floors.
The staff may blame central government, but they themselves made no effort to find additional chairs so that people could at least be comfortable while waiting. A person asking for a chair was accused by staff of asking for VIP treatment. He was wearing a suit and I think the member of staff made some kind of presumption, but the man's request was perfectly reasonable.
There was nowhere to get water, everyone was parched.
There was nowhere to get any food.
There was nothing to read or anything to distract yourself with.
The waits were long, 3 hours or longer.
There was no privacy, people were laid out in the beds being looked at by medics with the curtains wide open.
The staff were rude, brusque and callous to everyone.
Not all of the problems described here were down to NHS finance. They were down to callous decisions made by NHS staff and their managers.
"Terrible! "
