"7hrs in A&E"

About: St Mary's Hospital (HQ) (London)

I attended the A&E with some haste following symptoms that could signal heart attack or stroke.

I was seen by a doctor approx four hours after I arrived.

I had an EMG and blood test and left approx seven hours after I arrived.

The waiting area, toilets and cubicles were filthy. Staff I saw did not use gloves and patients were crammed into two mini waiting areas. Some of the patients were coughing, vomiting and another sat in his own filth. The stench was overwhelming yet he was wheeled in and sat near the waiting crowd. In the seven hours I was there I did not see a cleaner. Cubicles were not cleaned after patients so I cleaned the cubicle I was in with antiseptics wipes.

The doctor was polite and helpful. The majority of the nursing staff demonstrated a marked lack of empathy while I witnessed a doctor behaving callously.

The outstanding disgrace was the hygiene. Never in my life have I seen anything like this in a hospital.

I will not attend this hospital again, even in the worst emergency.
