"One Day Totalhhip Replacement"

About: Victoria Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I had my second one day total hip replacement at the beginning of February this year, 2020.

Often when I tell people I was in and out of hospital in one day they immediately reply, 'That's shocking ! Throwing you out of hospital in one day!' These people are totally mislead as this innovative Copenhagen Procedure brings countless benefits to the patient.

Because you are out the same day I arrived at hospital by 7.30 am and by the time all documentation was in place I proceeded to theatre. All staff were unbelievably kind and made it so easy for me to relax, Next thing I knew after general anaesthetic, I awoke in recovery. Shortly afterwards I returned to ward for toast and tea.

It seemed no time at all until occupational and physio therapists arrived to put me through my paces- dressing and a few exercises before sitting beside my bed. Everyone in the ward was so attentive and positive and made everything easy for me.

The day passed quickly and by 7.30 pm, after a visit from my consultant, I was allowed home.

Being encouraged to move so quickly after my op, helped avoid clotting and infection and now a fortnight later I can easily get about at home with one stick but still use two outside for safety and posture. I can walk for about twenty minutes.

My recovery is miraculous and I am so grateful to the skills and care I received in Kirkcaldy's Victoria Hospital from Mr Dunstan and team.

Dear Trina M,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to post your feedback in care opinion.

I appreciate the Copenhagen method of hip replacement is a fairly new concept for many and I am pleased that it was a very positive experience for yourself.

It is very much a team effort in the orthopaedic unit from pre-assessment, theatres and ward 10 and I will pass on your comments to all involved.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Regards

Lorna
