"It made me feel as if I was wasting people's time"

About: New Stobhill Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as a service user),

I had an appointment at Stobhill ACH, this week. I've been experiencing loss of my sight for several years but have only recently sought help. On my visit, the health wòrker I met summarised my various conditions in a very off hand manner. They said that they didn't know why I had come in, because there was nothing they could do for me. At my age, I don't want to be putting people out and I felt embarrassed by this. It made me feel as if I was wasting people's time. It made me want to cancel my follow up appointment.

Dear GB2020

Thank you for letting me know about your recent visit to the Ophthalmology Clinic.

I am very sorry that you were made to feel as though you were wasting people’s time. We expect staff to be helpful, courteous and compassionate at all times when they attend our service and I am very sorry that this was not your experience.

I will pass on your comments to the Ophthalmology Department to allow them to reflect on the experience you had and the feedback you have given.

If you would like to discuss this further, can you please contact me at: Nicole.McInally@ggc.scot.nhs.uk.

Kind Regards

Nicole
