"Impressive department"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I was nervous, I knew that this procedure is painful and was put at ease from the initial blood pressure.

The walk to the room - it was explained who was in my room and what they do.

The surgeon explained the procedure and did not rush me

The team were professional and endeavoured to put me at ease which was not easy as I was very scared, they were chatty and pleasant

The process was hideous however and I can’t believe that anaesthetic is not used which is de rigeur in USA it seems brutal in the extreme but I appreciate this is not a reflection of the team but a policy that really needs review.

Clean, swift and very impressive department thank you

Dear felicity swan

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your valuable feedback. It means so much to the team to hear that you felt so well supported, cared for and that the staff were so understanding.

We continually strive to provide high quality patient centred care, so it is really lovely to receive such positive comments to assure us that we are getting it right for our patients.

I am really sorry to hear that you found the procedure so uncomfortable. The aim of attending the outpatients department for some procedures can avoid the need for general anaesthetic which reduces the need for an inpatient stay and the associated side effects, which many patients prefer. In some circumstances a local anaesthetic can be used but this would usually be discussed with you by the nurse or doctor performing your procedure if it is possible, but is not always recommended dependent on the area being examined and how effective this could be. It is usually recommended that patients take painkillers prior to attending the clinic to minimise the discomfort they experience. Ladies are encouraged to tell staff if they feel too much discomfort and can stop the procedure at any time, and then if the procedure is still required, can choose to return as a daycase to have this completed under a general anaesthetic.

I hope that any discomfort your felt soon resolved and you recovered well.

I will ensure I pass on your feedback to the whole team and thank you again for taking the time to leave your constructive review, and for leaving such lovely comments regarding the care you received from the staff involved in your care – they will really appreciate this.

Take care and kind regards

Debbie
