"Care of my mother"

About: Musgrove Park Hospital / Neurology

(as a relative),

Conservators ward

Spoke to staff on ward about my mum and the fact that she has a severe mental disorder which is managed by a fortnightly injection.

Mum was admitted to the ward on a Monday with the injection being due on the following (8 days time) Wednesday. Spoke on Thursday evening to nurse in charge of mums car to ask whether procedure for the injection was in hand. Spoke to a different nurse again on the Saturday to check again, and on the Sunday night and again on the Monday and my wife spoke on her visit on the Monday evening. Asked my uncle (mums brother) to visit on the Tuesday during the doctors ward round, which he did and spoke to the doctor. We had a call from a very distressed mum - no injection.

Spoke to ward twice more that evening to get the name of the dr. I have tried searching on the hospital website for an e mail for this name, but no results, tried the GMC register - no results, so hopefully a misspelling.

Apparently the Dr has referred to the psychiatric team who will visit tomorrow. If the Dr's house was burning down and a fireman turned up and said we will be sending a fire prevention team in tomorrow to discuss how we can make your house less susceptible to fire how would that feel?

I am very very upset and want to talk to this doctor - if they exist - and see why NHS funds are being wasted by prolonging this stay in hospital when the solution is there. I will be ringing tomorrow, when not only the poor harassed nurses are working. They are wonderful and should be supported. Not dumped by those who are responsible.

I hope that this gives a view of my disappointment, i hope to give the dr a clearer view as soon as i can reach him

I am sorry that you have had reason to raise concerns and would like to reassure you that we do take any concerns raised seriously. I hope the telephone conversation yesterday evening offered reassurance that we do listen so we can share the learning to ensure we get things right in the future. My Apologies that communication regarding your mothers care was not as proactive as it could have been.

Thank you for the feedback regarding the exceptional nursing care, I will feed this back to the ward team. I feel very fortunate to be part of such a dedicated team

Kind regards

Matron Jacqueline Phillips
