"Obstruction in the car park"

About: Crosshouse Hospital

(as the patient),

I was on my way to my orthopaedic appointment today on foot an don approaching the hospital grounds there were 4 cars parked obstructing the path so I had to step into the road, then on approaching the zebra crossing in the hospital car park again a car was parked obstructing the path and the wheel was almost touching the zebra crossing. The same thing happened on my return. This is not acceptable as someone could potentially get very hurt. I hope someone can look into this.

Dear gladjim48,

I am sorry to hear that you have been having a difficult experience regarding negotiating your way around the car park.

It is regrettable that you see such bad behaviours and complete disregard by others where they resort to illegally parking. We are aware that parking can be problematic when our Out-patients clinics are operating resulting in peaks in demand for parking spaces, and culminated with the extended visiting times in wards. Fridays, evening and weekends are much improved and there are no issues at those times.

Due to staffing levels we cannot have a patrol in the car parking area, but when we can, we do speak with those who are parking illegally parking or causing a hazard. I can confirm that our NHS Board have approved that our Disabled Parking areas and drop-off points are to be ‘adopted by local authorities’ and Ayrshire Road alliance would then patrol the area, which should see improvements later this year.

Thank you for your response but my complaint was not about the car park itself rather, the approach road leading to car park where there is clearly double yellow lines just before the zebra in hospital grounds. I am 72 years old with a bad hip walking to an orthopaedic appointment. To get to zebra, I had to walk in middle of road and if a speeding car or emergency ambulance were to approach I could easily have caused an accident due to the inability to access pavement leading to zebra crossing. I did take photos of registration numbers of the four cars causing the obstruction. Same cars were there 45 minutes later on my return from appointment.
