My husband was recently admitted to ward 51 with vomiting which had lead to an acute kidney injury and as he is insulin dependent diabetic he was put on a sliding scale with his insulin.. a few issues came to light
He had a hypo and as he was in a single room and the nurse call buzzer was lying unreachable on the floor behind his bed it was just by luck he drew attention of a nurse.
After giving him some glucose no one came back to check on him or re check his BM, it was only when my daughter and I came in to visit we alerted an auxiliary nurse .. who I have to say, was in my opinion rude. Eventually came and re checked BM.
Dr’s asked for a copy of a CT scan that we had done in Nuffield.. I duly brought this up and gave it to Dr... they lost the report when they went to present it to consultant next morning .
He was moved to another ward on his second day and I have to say the staff were amazing.. very professional, pleasant (being a nurse myself I thought the staff in this ward were amongst some of the best in this hospital)... on arrival it was quickly noted that he had no identity bracelet on!... He had been given meds/sliding scale of insulin etc. and had not been checked for a band... to me this is absolutely outrageous!
