"Unexpected consequence of scan"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / X-rays and Scans

(as a relative),

I'm writing this on behalf of my wife who cannot write because of the result of having had a stroke 3 years ago. I write in the hope that the result may help others.

My wife was invited to have a ultrasound scan at Wishaw hospital, we thought in connection with the trouble she was suffering, namely, extreme pain when passing urine and was only peeing in small quantities about 15 times every day. This had been with her for 5 weeks or more.

The radiologist explained that the ultrasound scans had been requested by our GP for another complaint (vaginal discharge) she carried out the external scan but not internally as my wife had had her womb removed many years previously which apparently was not recorded on her file. When the ultrasound scanning tool was pressed against her bladder it caused the same pain she had been suffering when peeing.

As soon as we arrived home, my wife 'had to go' and incredibly there was now no pain!

Thinking it was a one off event we gave a shrug. However I can report that 10 days have passed and the pain has not returned and her frequency (now about 7 times per day) and quantities have returned to her normality.

I don't believe in coincidence, so either the radiologist's activity with the scanning tool or the sound waves from the tool have dislodged or disintegrated whatever the obstruction was.

In any case we are grateful for the unintended consequence of the US Scan. Perhaps you can pass this info on as it may be of help to current and future sufferers with similar problems.

Best Regards
