"Wonderful care before and after ankle surgery"

About: Addenbrooke's Hospital / Accident and emergency Addenbrooke's Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I went to A&E at Addenbrooke's Cambridge recently. I had slipped over a week or so before and thought I had just sprained my ankle but the Minors clinic near A&E informed me I had broken my fibula just above the ankle. I then had to wait in the clinic for some time as a bed could not be found for me but the staff were so friendly and helpful. Thanks especially to Andy, Tracie and Bernie (apologies if I've got your names wrong). I was finally found a bed in Ward C8 and I would like to say a massive thank you to all staff on that ward, admin cleaners nurses porters caterers - you are all superstars!. They all went about their jobs in difficult and trying circumstances but they always had a smile on their faces. I was admitted to Theatre on the Thursday to have a plate fitted in my foot to fix the broken bone. The anaesthetist, surgeons, basically everyone was very friendly and kept me fully informed. The support before and after the operation was brilliant. The anaesthetist even came to see me after the op to express a concern that I may have sleep apnea so I can follow this up with my GP. Finally discharged Friday evening with a walking frame and a toilet frame to help me. Special mention goes to the nurses on C8 who were always friendly, funny (that helps!), the nurses on the night shift on C8 (you know who you are, absolute angels thank you!) and everyone who helped me on the Friday especially the nurse who helped me with the various discharge letters. Massive thanks also to all in the Physio department (esp Zach) and Mel in Occupational Therapy who was so helpful and knowledgeable and brought stuff to my attention that I would never have thought of. Big thanks! Finally thank you so much to the nurse who helped me down to the exit with all my stuff where I was being picked up (again you know who you are, huge thanks!)

You are all amazing. Thank you!
