"Mixed treatment"

About: Change Grow Live Cambridgeshire / Wisbech

(as a service user),

When different staff are on you get different treatment one min you can go through and get a drink next time your not depending on which workers are working. It makes me feel uncomfortable especially one staff member in particular, when I come in  they can be very rude and stops us getting drinks and chatting with other users because the close in 15 mins but when your homeless and cold we would appreciate 15 mins of heat and a warm drink. This makes me feel unwelcome.

My worker for opiates I feel can be very confrontational and their attitude sometimes really effects me I actually dread going up to cgl. Things were good a few months ago but when I went up last week I noticed there was no service users engaging like there was a month ago so no one to talk to who understands. One of the peers told me to mention my experiences but don't feel I can, so they told me to come on here and say anything good and bad. I come here for help and I don't feel my worker understands my needs of my circumstances or many others I have spoken with. I know the workers are busy but I dread coming up there now and by the looks of the user turn outs everyone else feels the same. Maybe I'm not the only one?

Hi Comper 247

Thank you so much for your feedback. I really do appreciate it. If we don’t know about issues like this then we cant do anything about it so thanks again. Firstly, I am so sorry you have had such a bad experience and we certainly don’t want that to happen again. In terms of coming in for a drink etc we encourage service users to use the space to sit down chat to staff and other service users when they are coming in for their appointment or group. We want this to be a place where everyone feels comfortable to be and we have a comprehensive timetable of groups and pod sessions offering valuable content.

Unfortunately, we do close at certain times and therefore we will ask people to leave before we close. We know that some of our service users are homeless and of course we will try to help people and part of that is encouraging them to attend other services who provide more specialist support in this area.

We really want to make the central area a friendly inviting area for service users to sit and chat with staff, peer mentors and volunteers. We are an open access service for our service users but equally we are not a day service where anyone can come and be there all day. We feel it’s important to encourage people to get in touch with the right services.

We are always looking to recruit and train new Peer Mentors and volunteers to help provide this valuable support. I am sorry that it appears that no one was available at the time you attended.

If you really feel that you are not progressing in your treatment and you put this down to your relationship with your worker than we can talk about this. You can email me at Paul.Pescud@cgl.org.uk and I can take this up with the local team leader. If you feel so strongly then of course there is the formal complaints route which I can support you with too if needed.

Thanks again for taking the time to comment about the service.
