"Badly organised, lacking basic people skills"

About: University Hospital Of North Durham

I am sure the staff individually are all people who care but they are delivering a service which is sorely lacking care and compassion. This didnt appear to be an understaffed department but staff seemed to have limited patient focus. Not even taking the time to explain why tests are being done or the outcome of these.

This is a department where nursing is done TO patients rather than FOR patients. An example being one patient in the ward waited from lunchtime for someone to tell them whether he could go home visitors cam and went home and still no one bothered to explain, it was only after dinner when he asked again and was told no doctor would be round until the next day.

On my discharge no one took time to explained the discharge letter or what to do next, only to list the medication...strokes are very frightening and none of the staff seemed to acknowledge this to try to allay my fears.

Functional with great records I am sure ... but missing the respect, compassion and care that are core values of the nhs
