"Lack of disabled parking spaces"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary

(as a parent/guardian),

Had outpatients appointment with my severely disabled son. No disabled parking spaces left so parked in another space. Returned to car park to find my way blocked to my car due to someone parking on the walkway which meant I had to wheel my distressed son around the carpark to find another walkway. I feel there should be a parking attended in place to stop this happening in future.

Dear hb-2020,

Thank you for sharing your story with us, I am so sorry that your experience of parking at our hospital was not a positive one. It is our aim to provide adequate, appropriate parking facilities for all of our patients, however we appreciate that it can be difficult during particularly busy periods.

On top of not being able to find an appropriate car parking space it must have been extremely distressing to have been blocked in by another car, particularly when your son was already distressed, I am extremely sorry that this occurred as this is not the experience we wish our patients to have while visiting DGRI.

Should anything like this occur again in the future please inform the patient experience team who will endeavour to assist you in any way that they can.

I will discuss this further at our next management meeting and raise your suggestion of parking attendants

If you feel that you would like to discuss this further, we would welcome your call to the Patient Experience Team on 01387241690 or via email on

Kind regards

Alexis Brain
