"Avoid"

This is generic CBT advice that is delivered via a chat function which feels very distant and impersonal.

Presumably, the whole point of the service being chat based (instead of a voice call which would make more sense from a patient assurance perspective) is that Ieso can record everything you type.

During the first session the counsellor seemed to give out quite generic answers to my statements and questions. At one point I wondered whether they were a bot.

The materials I was sent after the first session weren't very well put together, filled with typos and clearly cut/pasted from other sources. I could have likely found better CBT self help material available in a bookshop. This is not talking therapy and I question Ieso's ability to deliver quality therapy services.

The sea of questionnaires are what Ieso is really keen on you completing (9 after every session!) as it builds their data pool and helps them create a counselling algorithm they can sell on. Ieso is a private company driving the population of their data pool by offering NHS trusts a cheap alternative to mitigating their shortages of face to face counselling services. Don't be fooled by this stuff.

One more thing to consider, unless you specifically find the box to tick and opt out, your default setting states you are happy to receive therapy from trainees.

Avoid if you are serious about treatment.

Thank you for leaving your feedback. I am so sorry that you had this experience.

I can assure you our therapists are all real - we don't use bots. However, this level of service is not what we aim for and I would like to ask you to contact us to let us know who your therapist was so we can investigate this. We want to make sure you get the best help possible.

Therapists ask all patients to fill in questionnaires before sessions. As a service working in partnership with the NHS they are mandated to do this. They are used to measure mood to give therapist indication of progress and to help with treatment decisions. They are also used by the NHS to quality assure the service we offer. We absolutely do not sell any of this data.

I am aware that questionnaires can feel like hard work. There is often an agreement that can be arranged if it feels like too much, and I am very sorry in this instance it doesn’t sound like you were helped out at all.

Please get in touch with us so we can put this right.

In regards to using trainee therapists, as with all NHS services, trainees are occasionally used whilst being closely supervised. This is rare and the vast majority of our therapists are BABCP accredited, and we would always be sure not to compromise on care given to the patient.

Thank you once again for leaving your feedback with us. I hope you get in touch so we can discuss this further with you.

All the very best,

Rebecca, Ieso
