"I could not have done it without her"

About: Gartnavel General Hospital / Xrays and Scans

(as the patient),

I was extremely anxious when against expectations I received a letter from a consultant indicating that I should go for a Pet scan to investigate a shadow on my lung. My husband accompanied me but I thought he could stay with me, but I had not read that he was only allowed in the waiting area. This got me off to a weepy start.

I am also claustrophobic and was dreading going into the machine. In addition at a MRI scan last year the veins in my left arms collapsed due to the injection I received.

Enter Renee. She very quietly dealt with my tears and fears and went to my husband to give him my message about the two hour wait. She took me to see the big machine and offered me a trial run, She dealt with my needle situation, when I was saying that I could not do a cannula, by suggesting the butterfly needle I think it was called. she did my scan, talked me through it and in general due to her expertise, professionalism, and care I actually got the procedure completed. I could not have done it without her and will never be able to thank her enough. My angel and a job so so well done

Dear volansry33

Thank you so much for taking the time to write about your experience on Care Opinion. It can indeed be a anxious time having to undergo investigations, not knowing what to expect. I am absolutely delighted that your experience was so much better that you had initially expected which was understandable.

We are very much aware of our patients anxieties, and try to put people at ease. It is very clear by your comments that my colleague Renee was able to do just that for you. Sometimes it is the small meaningful words of encouragement that can make all the difference to patients. I shall be more than happy to pass on your kind words to Renee. I am sure like me she would want to pass on her sincere thanks and wish you well for the future.

Many thanks once again and take care

Sheila
