"Unprofessional, Rude Nurse"

About: Sheffield City GP HC (Wic)

After not being able to get an appointment with my own GP this week, I attended the Sheffield walk in centre on 17/01/20 and at about 20:00 was called in by a nurse.

Right from the outset it was obvious she was not interested in hearing what I had to say. She did not ask me once what my issue was. She read from a screen and proceeded to talk about not being able to prescribe anything.

I told her i was seen in Royal Hallamshire Hospital recently and they asked me to visit my GP as the GP may prescribe some topical steroid cream etc. she latched on to this said 'I cannot prescribe a steroid cream..." I had to clarify to her that I was not asking her to prescribe but simply stating what the hospital had said.

Just before this she even said I could pick steroid cream over the counter to which I had replied that if i could've diagnosed the issue myself i would have gone to a pharmacy but because I did not know what my condition was I was at the walk in centre in the hope to be seen by a doctor. She responded to this by asking me a leading questions, "so you think you can diagnose it yourself ?" Or something like that. I replied, 'please don't write this down,  was not saying that." She never apologised for this either.

I showed her a spot on my tongue. She made no effort to look at it. She did not lean forward,  she did not switch on the Otoscope which she was holding.  She remained in her seat looking at me with my tongue sticking out, and she repeatedly said, "where, where, where". Once I had pointed it out to her with my finger she said,  "that's not concerning". I was shocked that she had made a diagnosis so quickly without looking at the the area where the main condition was. I told her I was showing her the raised area on my tongue as the spot looked similar to the ones on the other area  and in the hope she may be able to 'connect the dots'.

I lost all faith in her ability to help me by this point. Despite being in pain I left. I stood up and said, "it looks like I have wasted my time...thank you for your time". She never responded.

Quite frankly, I think this nurse was one of the least professional and one of the passively rudest practitioners I have ever met. She needs to reflect on her behaviour and remember her training. If there are other complaints about her than I hope someone will also report her to NMC.
