I took my mum to get assessed at the Memory Service for the first time today at the Northern General Hospital. The assessment was excellent and our overall experience was so positive. Firstly, the waiting area was really welcoming and had lots of information and even refreshments. Secondly, the nurse, Jo, was really great with my mum and had a really good rapport and explained things really clearly. Thirdly, the assessment was more thorough than l ever expected and fully involved me as a carer. What surprised me in a good way was how holistic the assessment is and taps in to other services that would be relevant and is a Gateway for other help for my mum and me. Nobody rushed us and all the staff helped me with the wheelchair. It could not have gone better or been more professional yet friendly. Much appreciated at a worrying time.
