"Ongoing Illness"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Endoscopy University Hospital Hairmyres / Respiratory Medicine (Ward 12)

(as the patient),

In 2018 I was diagnosed with COPD.

Last year I got a second opinion, the consultant I seen quickly raced through my notes and xrays etc, and came to the conclusion that I had a slight touch of Asthma. I don't know too much about Asthma but people I know who have it can get on with their daily lives without too many problems.

I have used the inhalers I was given for COPD, but they seem to do nothing, I am the same with or without them.

I seem to get some kind of internal flare up which gives me terrible diarrhoea, vomiting, and leaves me very incapacitated for months at a time. It also leaves me in a lot of pain, abdominal, chest area, mostly left hand side right through to my back. I have a constant pain which can get worse during the night, it seems to depend which way I am lying and this brings on the nausea in the morning.

I found it hard to accept COPD diagnosis, as this came out of the blue, I was a keen cyclist and very fit.

I am an ex smoker / drinker of some 14 years now.

I have just taken ill again, I think I am now close to losing my job, s job I love.

If it is COPD / Asthma, then I am not getting the help I need.

If it is some other underlying illness then it needs looked into.

I just want someone to help me.

Thank you

Dear Brido 2000

Thank you for taking the time to write to Care Opinion about your ongoing medical problems.

I would be delighted to deal with any of the issues you have raised and would ask that you contact our Patient Affairs Department on 01355 585325 so that we can get further details from you and find out what has happened in your case.

You should also attend your GP if you have any current medical issues who will be able to offer advice and assistance and give a professional opinion regarding your ongoing health issues.
