"Adrenal insufficiency"

About: The Royal Victoria Infirmary / Endocrinology

(as the patient),

Adrenal insufficiency and a dangerous management scenario that happened to me.

I use Liothyronine for central hypothyroidism (TSH deficiency 2004).

I became adrenal insufficient and saw a consultant at Newcastle RVI in April 2018.  I’d been on Prednisolone whilst waiting to see this doctor since December 2017.  They swapped me to hydrocortisone and weaned me to zero for SST.  I became acutely hypothyroid (clinically and biochemically).  Liothyronine requires cortisol.

I’d emailed this consultant a few times during the wean to ask if I was “safe”.  They assured me I was.   It made me very ill.  I feel I was experimented on and my history of TSH deficiency should have sounded alarm bells for him to realise that my ACTH had failed too.  I failed my SST.   I’m now under the care of a doctor who I feel is more knowledgable.

I have copies of results and photographic evidence of the induced acute hypothyroidism.  I sent a comment to a senior member of ADSHG who sent my details to a clinical negligence lawyer.  I did not give my consent for my details to be shared.  Moreover, litigation is not my intent.  I’d like my first consultant to be informed of their what feels like their error.
