"avoid at all costs"

About: Ship Street Surgery

I agree that this practice is in meltdown. Appointments are as rare as hen's teeth. There is no continuity of care as the more experienced experienced doctors seem to have left and the new, usually very young ones, come and go very quickly.Tried to ring for an appointment today but gave up after 199 calls and have had to pay £140 for a private GP appointment in Hove! If you do manage to get through on the phone to make an appointment on the day you may not be told that the appointment is not with a doctor. We have gone twice in the past few months expecting to see a doctor but instead found the appointment is with a paramedic or a nurse.

Dear Patient

I am sorry to hear you had difficulty tis morning, but we had problems with the telephone lines coming into the practice, which took some time to resolve.

Continuity of Care is difficult to achieve with most GP working less than full time. We do wherever possible try and book the patient in with who saw them last, but this is not easy as the surgeries do get booked up very quickly so if patient cannot wait for next available appointment with that GP inevitably the patient will see a different doctor.

Staff have been trained to direct patients to paramedic or nurse practitioner for appropriate health issues which provides greater access to patients with complex needs to see one of the GPs.

I am sorry you felt the need to pay for a private consultation as we do have appointments on the system if you needed to be seen today.

I wonder if you are aware that we now have access to additional access via Push Doctor a skype type service or at the Hub held at East Grinstead. Do ask the receptionist about these services if you are struggling.

I am happy to discuss any concerns re service with any individuals who are experiencing specific issues.

Thank you for taking the time to feed back as this does provide us with an opportunity to improve.

Best Wishes

Christine Earwaker

Practice Manager
