About: Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust

I suffered a knee injury and went to A and E, where I was treated pretty quickly, and given time to talk through what had happened. I then returned for my follow up with the fracture clinic, where my doctor felt my knee, talked to me briefly, and signed me off, saying it was nothing to worry about. Ok great.

A week later I turned to talk to my friend and my knee completely buckled under me. No bother, it seemed to good to be true.

I then returned to A and E, was again treated quickly and spoke to a great nurse who took the time to go over my problem and make me feel cared for.

I then went to the fracture clinic for my follow up appointment, where I was made to feel small, insignificant and like a number in the system. They did not listen to what had happened to me from me, and were visibly annoyed I had seen a physio therapist separately to them (from first injury to this appointment had been 2 months). The doctor even remarked that is was my preference - all I wanted was to care for my knee, both through physiotherapy and by getting a doctors opinion on the steps I would need to take to recover.

I was then given an MRI appointment, again, the staff for this appointment were great and really helpful, my only qualm would be that the images and report should be sent on to your GP following completion, rather then having to be requested.

I then came in for what would be my final appointment, where the doctor looked at my MRI images (the same doctor who discharged me originally). He told me what he believed the images to be, and that my ACL tear was only partial and therefore I would be recovered and fully fit within a month or so (3 and a half months since original injury).

I continued my physiotherapy, and a month and a half later returned to sport having genuinely worked really hard on strengthening my leg for the entire 4 months.

Within 3 weeks, my knee has goes again, and I am back to square one.

4 months of my life wasted. I will not be returning to the hospital following this experience.
