"Not being heard"

About: Highly Specialist Services / Gender Identity Service (GIS)

(as a service user),

So. The policy with the gender service is 2 missed appointments and you get discharged. I understand this. so, I missed the first one cause I was in America. I missed the second one cause it was my first day at university. I then missed the 3rd one cause I was told the wrong time.

I physically went to the clinic for the 3rd one and was told I was 2 hours late, something I wasn't aware of, so I was told I would have another appointment booked in. Well. 2 weeks of waiting later I got a discharge letter. I went to my GP to get another referral and haven't heard back since. I have been in gender services now since I was 14, I am now 18, and I'm literally nowhere closer to where I want to be, is anything in 5 steps back cause I'm not even in the service. It upsets me every day and I don't even know what to do any more. My goal at 15 was to get on hormones by the time I finished my A levels, now it feels like I won't be even in a service till I finish university and beyond.

Thank you for your recent feedback about being discharged from the service.. Due to the demands on the service and the number of patients who require a service, we have to manage cancellations and adhere to the clinic cancellation policy. However, I am sorry there might have been some confusion and that you might have been mistakenly discharged

I would encourage you to make direct contact with me to enable to explore your particular case and provide you with an update. You could email me at Porterbrook@shsc.nhs.uk or telephone 01142716671.

Many thanks

Katie
