"Diagnosis contradictions"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Neurology Western Infirmary/Gartnavel General

(as a relative),

Peripheral neuropathy was diagnosed in 2005 at Southern General after referral by Western Transplant Team. Consultant advised likely caused by poor kidney function and prescription drugs.

Neuropathy consultant at Crosshouse recently confirmed worsening condition likely due to poor kidney function and possible vitamin deficiency. Transplant consultant states unlikely to be connected to kidney function (last check at 17). Also told transplant patients not routinely checked for vitamin deficiencies.

Web advises vitamin deficiencies can be caused by poor kidney function and if treated can improve neuropathy symptoms.

Thank you for your feedback. I can see you have concerns about your relative's treatment. It must be frustrating to be met with different information. I'd like to suggest that you encourage your relative to get back to their GP, or their specialist Consultant, in order to discuss these.

I hope that you are able to do this so you can get the opportunity to have the situation addressed by clinical staff.

Best wishes

Paul

Thank you for using Patient Opinion. I have been reviewing all of the responses. Yours emphasises the importance of information and support to enable people to cope at home and at times of transition. I will make sure that this is incorporated into learning and improvement work locally.

Best wishes

Craig White
