About: The Rycote Practice

Difficult to get medications which are necessary but given medicines on assumptions and which are unsuitable.. Given appointment with part time doctors who just pass you on to another doctor who can deal with your problem and does so well but this needs more appointments as the competent doctor is in shortage. No blood tests or blood pressure taken during last 14 months being a patient although these were thought essential by my previous doctor. Prescriptions are being given for high blood pressure and I had kidney and liver problems just before joining this practice.. Asked to buy suggested prescription even though a pensioner. eg I had a blocked Eustachian Tube resulting in acute ear ache after 3 doctor's appointments it was suggested this may be the problem and given a note of the name of the spray that would help. I bought the spray and it did help but it cost me over £10 . Now it is returning and at 86 am I not entitled to free medications?

Dear Patient

We are very sorry to read that you are dissatisfied with the care you have received from our team. We passionately believe that the best care is provided by the GP that knows you best and we are sorry to hear that you do not seem to have been able to regularly see your “Usual GP”. We are also surprised to hear that you have not received blood tests or had a blood pressure taken for a significant period of time. All patients with a long term condition are invited annual for a health check and medication review – we contact patients at least three times and only exempt patients if they fail to respond to invitations to attend the surgery.

In line with a policy adopted by Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group, we do encourage patients to purchase medications that are available over the counter. Many of these medications are more expensive if prescribed than they are to purchase from a supermarket or and this allows scarce NHS resources to be focused on other priorities. We are very grateful to our patients for their support with this approach.

I hope that I have been able to address some of your points but it is difficult to fully answer your concerns without knowing the exact details. I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss these with you and strongly encourage you to contact the surgery and ask to speak to me so that we can address your frustrations.
