"Lack of humanity"

About: Three Villages Medical Practice

My mother has moved about 800 metres outside the practise catchment area and we have been told that we have to find her a new GP. She is 92 and on 19th of December was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. All of the medical professionals are telling us that we will get help and support to guide us through this period, but our first experience is of a doctors surgery that wants to remove her from their list. At this time we are being told of potential medicines that we should discuss with our doctor, but we have to find a new one and put her through going for registration interviews etc.

I find the whole situation bewildering.

I haven’t even had a formal response from the practice manager who I wrote to to ask her to reconsider

I am sorry that you are unsatisfied with our out of area policy.

Unfortunately, in order to not overstretch our resources, whenever a patient moves out of our current practice catchment area we ask them to register at a nearer practice to their new home address.

We frequently receive letters from patients asking to remain registered with our practice, due to this we had to come to the decision not to keep any patients on who move outside of the area.

A formal response has since been sent to you regarding this matter.

If you wish to discuss this further please contact the Practice Manager or Assistant Practice Manager on 01384 322 500.
