"My visit to Emergency at Borders Generak Hospital, Melrose, Scotland"

About: Borders General Hospital / Accident & Emergency Borders General Hospital / Acute Assessment Unit

(as the patient),

As a visitor to Scotland from Australia, I went to the Emergency Department of Borders General Hospital, Melrose in November last year suffering acute pain in chest.

The treatment I received in this Emergency Department was absolutely brilliant and first class, and I would like to take this opportunity to commend the hospital and some of the practitioners who treated me on this visit.

Firstly, Dr Nick Ord was extraordinarily attentive, thorough and compassionate in treating me upon arrival.  I didn't have to wait even though the hospital was busy, and his professional interest and his very thorough examination of my symptoms reassured me that I was in good hands.

Secondly, Dr Jenny Hall in the Acute Assessment Unit, maintained this high level of thorough and complete investigation into my symptoms and I cannot praise her professional approach enough.  She also wrote a very detailed report of the treatment received and tests undergone to ensure my Medical Practitioners back in Australia could receive this information.

Finally Joanne Little (Nurses' Aide) was also very attentive, empathetic and compassionate in her treatment towards both myself and my husband.

As visitors from Australia to Scotland, we were very impressed with the high standard of care and treatment afforded to us at this hospital.

I am hoping that this feedback will be forwarded to these personnel who are doing an outstanding job, and to their supervisors.

We hear a lot of criticism about the NHS, however, in our situation, we have nothing but high praise for the treatment we received.

Dear jmare33

Thank you so much for taking the time to use Care Opinion to share the details of your experience when you visited the Emergency Department (ED) and Acute Assessment Unit (AAU) at Borders General Hospital.

I can only imagine how scary a time this must have been for you when you were taken unwell a long way from home. I am delighted to hear about the fantastic care you received from staff in ED and AAU, particualarly from Dr Ord, Dr Hall and Joanne. I have shared your feedback with them directly who will be greatly appreciative of your positive feedback.

I have to say that having returned from a few days leave over the festive break, reading your story has put a skip back in my step this morning so thank you for starting my year off so positively! You have made me very proud that the staff in ED and AAU are my colleagues.

I hope you have now fully recovered and are back in full health. best wishes for 2020.

Regards,

Karen
