"Immediate help when needed"

About: St Austell Community Hospital

I attended on Saturday 28 December with extreme shortness of breath. I was hoping for some antibiotics. At the reception desk I could not get a word out because I was so ill. I was taken straight through to a treatment room and after initial obs, I was nebulised. An ambulance was called and I was transferred to Treliske for more investigations and treatment.

I was advised that I should have callled 999 myself but all we hear is how over-stretched the A&E departments are. It's very difficult to make that call, especially so if you live on your own, as I do.

I am so grateful for the attention I recieved in the MIU.
