Emily, the asthma nurse for Newham visited our home in December for our son. We have always had advice from A&E and GPs that was more tilted to treating symptoms rather that cause, and we were impressed when we were contacted for a visit. My son had been going to hospital more and more and we appreciated that the NHS was taking a more proactive approach to his care.
Emily was lovely, and explained everything in detail. More importantly, she spent plenty of time talking directly to my son to ensure that he understood the importance of his medication and asthma regime.
Emily identified several simple triggers that could easily be resolved e.g. remove perfumed plug-ins, use anti-allergy bed covers, do a nightly sinus-rinse.
We noticed an improvement in just a few days. His peak-flow, which once maxed out at 300 soared to 400! He is now his normal cheeky self again and we are optimistic about his future ability to take part in sport (where previously we had resigned ourselves to expect frequent interruptions in training due to sickness).
We'd like to thank Emily and all involved with Asthma care in the borough. The personal touch Emily provided has quite possibly changed my son's life forever.
"The advice given following a home visit by an asthma nurse."
