"I will go out of my way to avoid ever coming here…"

About: Royal Lancaster Infirmary

1) the waiting room chairs were the most uncomfortable things I’ve ever sat on. I’d have sat on the floor, but the floor was utterly filthy. I have a chronic pain condition - I am on crutches, and I have been in agony all weekend just from sitting in those awful chairs. That waiting room was extremely cold. NO ONE checked on us even once.

2) The doctor I initially saw during triage didn’t quite understand the concept of ‘deaf person’ and he kept talking with his back to me, so I couldn’t understand a word he said. He was sharp and unhelpful. The nurse had to tell me everything he said.

3) I came in because I was vomiting blood - I checked 111online first and it said to come in. I waited 2 hours to see anyone, which I was warned about. That’s fine, I don’t mind waiting my turn. They told me they would do the blood tests and get back to me within the hour. I waited on those awful chairs for a total of 7 HOURS.

They let a disabled person with a chronic pain condition sit on those chairs for seven hours and didn’t even check on them once. There were elderly people in there, on those same awful chairs, no one checked on us once.

The only reason I got any help was because a nurse passed and I BEGGED her to check on the status of my tests. I was in so much pain I was crying.

They gave me an anti-sickness pill and sent me home at quarter to 3 am, NINE HOURS after I’d come in. I had anti-sick tablets at home, I only came in because there was A LOT of blood in my vomit and 111online told me I needed to go in. Anti-sick wasn’t the problem! The extensive amount of blood in the vomit was! So they didn’t even treat me for what I was there for. If they were just going to do that I could have just stayed at home. Or, they could have given me that pill when they saw me at triage after 2 hours, but instead they left me sitting for over seven hours in a filthy, cold waiting room on chairs that have locked up my back. I left after a total there of NINE hours - and they did nothing to help me.

The only reason I didn’t fight further was because I was so exhausted and in so much agony from sitting in those awful chairs and from my stomach hurting so bad that I just wanted to go home.

I was texting with my friend the whole time - he had to repeatedly talk me out of walking out, which apparently is a problem for them (https://www.lancasterguardian.co.uk/lifestyle/1303-patients-left-e-being-treated-657297)

So I left with no help for the blood in my vomit. I'm still vomiting blood days later.

If my GP can't get me in, I'll take a train down to Preston and then a taxi to the A&E there, because I feel worse having gone to the RLI A&E than I did when I went in. Not only am I still sick, but my back is still locked up from those bloody chairs. Going there did damage to my body and resolved nothing. I'm still just as sick as I was when I went in.
